Tips on comparing painting quotes
Here are some tips to help you evaluate painting quotes.
Scope of work
Make sure the quote clearly specifies areas to be painted.
Specifications
The following items should be detailed:
- Preparation processes (cleaning, sanding, filling, defect correction etc)
- Painting systems (use of primers or sealers, number of finish coats)
- Brand of paints to be used - look for well known brands
Price
Be aware cheaper prices (especially those that are a lot cheaper) may reflect shortcuts to be taken, inferior workmanship, inferior paint or non-compliance with insurance, wages, etc.
Potential problems
Experienced painters will identify items that cannot be firmly quoted eg. when stripping wallpaper or paint, you often don’t know how long it will take until you start the process. We can provide estimates for these "unknown items". The final price may be lower or higher, depending on ease of the job.
Experienced painters will also identify problems such as leaking roofs & advise of repairs needed before painting starts.
Warranties
Quotes that include a warranty add confidence in your selection of a painter. If a warranty is required, please request before work commences so documentation can be organised.
